student day

Today really felt like being a student all over again.
Spent the afternoon pouring over research articles at Starbucks. Now I'm at Hamilton in the evening and will probably be here past midnight doing research.
I can't believe I spent so much money to live like this.

After paying tuition and now facing a $1000 charge on my credit card, I'm officially a graduate student. It's been over three years since the undergraduate commencement and time has really passed. I dwell on the questions "where have I been?" and "what have I accomplished?" in that brief and quick period of time.

Here's to hopes of finding balance between work, studying and having a life.

Dude, where's my ride?

By Advertiser Staff

The San Diego City College baseball team isn't exactly lost in Hawai'i, but the day is young.

The baseball team, which is playing Hawai'i Pacific University at 5 p.m. today at Hans L'Orange field, is relying on public transportation to get from its hotel in Waikiki to the park in the Waipahu area and back.

"It's always an adventure when you have 30 guys catching public transportation," said coach Chris Brown, who often brings his team to Hawai'i.

"One year, I had a game at Central O'ahu and three of my players didn't show up. They showed up three hours after game time because the bus took them to the North Shore."

Brown said the team budgeted for a van for the first game (the team has been here since last Tuesday), but "your money tends to run out in Hawai'i very quickly.

"So I said, 'Guys, we're going to have an adventure.' "

Brown said the game against HPU should end around 7:30-8. The team might hold a barbecue after that.

"Then, we'll find our way back to Waikiki. Does that sound like an adventure to you?" Brown said.

The Knights will be starting former Kamehameha Schools' athlete Ashkhon Kuhaulua as pitcher today.

And, Brown says, if anyone feels like giving some members of his team a ride back to the Waikiki Sunset (across the zoo), just call him at 619-212-0928.
